Presidential TFR to be in effect over Florida

A temporary flight restriction (TFR) will be in effect in the vicinity of Palm Beach, Florida, from Nov. 20 to 26 during President Donald Trump's holiday visit to his Mar-a-Lago estate.

As of Nov. 19, the TFR was scheduled to be in effect from 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 20 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 26 (0200Z Nov. 27). The 30-nautical-mile-radius TFR, effective from the surface up to and including 17,999 feet msl, consists of a 10-nm inner core in which most operations are prohibited except those specifically authorized by the TFR notice to airmen, and an outer area from 10 nm to 30 nm from the airspace center, in which flight operations are “limited to aircraft arriving or departing local airfields, and workload permitting, ATC may authorize transit operations. Aircraft may not loiter. All aircraft must be on an active IFR or filed VFR flight plan with a discrete code assigned by An Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility. Aircraft must be squawking the discrete code prior to departure and at all times while in the TFR and must remain in two-way radio communications with ATC.”

Activities not authorized within the TFR include flight training, practice instrument approaches, aerobatic flight, glider operations, parachute operations, ultralight operations, hang gliding, balloon operations, agriculture/crop dusting, animal population control flight operations, banner towing operations, sightseeing operations, maintenance test flights, model aircraft operations, model rocketry, unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and utility and pipeline survey operations.

AOPA and the FAA urge pilots who plan to fly in Florida during the TFR’s active times to receive a thorough preflight briefing and to check notams frequently before and during their flights for any changes of the TFR’s effective times or boundaries.
