Aerobat's anniversary
You know when you've met "The One." It's as if you were designed for each other in a relationship that promises to withstand enormous stresses and have you head over heels with joy. Seeing you together makes people happy—and causes plane spotters to run for their notebooks to record a sighting of a One Design Model DR–107, a single-seat tailwheel kitplane with a distinctive mid-wing and bubble canopy. Designed to handle the high G loads of competitive aerobatics, Dan Rihn's creation celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of its introductory flight in 2018.

Question

Do the federal aviation regulations allow for two people to occupy a single seat and seat belt?
Answer
The regulations are generally silent on the topic, although they do not prohibit it. You should exercise caution, and be sure not to exceed the maximum seat weight if applicable, the manufacturer restricted maximum aircraft capacity if applicable, or the aircraft's weight-and-balance limits.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training?
