Plane Spotter
AOPA
The teardrop twin
Czech aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody is known to plane spotters as a prolific producer of jet aircraft, with trainers a specialty of the line. Before that reputation was forged, the company's post-World War II output included a line of low-wing, tailwheel-equipped twin-engine airplanes with a distinctive rounded nose and teardrop-shaped fuselage. Introduced in 1947, the four- or five-place Aero was followed by the more powerful Super Aero 45 (pictured here) and 145 models that were built until 1961, according to a mainstay text of the plane spotter: Jane's World Aircraft Recognition Handbook.

Question

Can a student pilot fly solo at night?
Answer
Yes. According to 14 CFR 61.87(o), student pilots can solo at night provided they have received night flight training and a 90-day night solo flight endorsement. Some flight schools do not allow it, and some insurance providers prohibit solo night flights by student pilots. Check with each beforehand.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
