Plane Spotter
AOPA
Biting performance
Lancair International's unveiling of a 210-horsepower, two-seat, composite airplane that you can build, cruise toward your destination at a projected speed of almost 200 knots, and land in 800 feet got general aviation's attention in 2018. The company calls its ferociously speedy design, officially on introduction in 2019, the Barracuda—adding that the airplane is the "little brother" to Lancair's four-seat Mako model. A tip for plane spotters fishing for a Barracuda to include in their spotting logs: Look for an automatically retracting nose gear, and fixed main landing gear. Question

There are many references to solo flight time in the Part 61 regulations. What exactly is solo flight time?
Answer
The FAA uses the terms "solo" and "solo flight" in Part 61. It is the flight time acquired while you are the only person on board the aircraft (see 14 CFR 61.51(d)).

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
