Fifth annual High School Symposium set for Denver

The fifth annual You Can Fly AOPA High School Aviation STEM Symposium is a chance for educators to get to know the leaders in the field. The symposium will be held in the United Airlines Center in Denver November 10 through 12.
Preflight November 2011

Join AOPA for two full days of breakout sessions, expert speakers, and networking opportunities. Featured speakers come with a wealth of experience in education, aviation, aerospace, and more. They will share lessons learned and provide fresh ideas to take back to the classroom. We’ve added more time for breakout sessions designed to help attendees get the most out of the experience, whether your school is interested in starting an aviation program, adding aviation content to STEM classes, or enhancing an existing aviation initiative at your school. The excitement about aviation education from participants at this symposium creates an energized atmosphere you’ll find nowhere else.

Participants will hear from leaders in the STEM education community and the aviation industry, including Ricky Arnold, NASA astronaut; Bryan Quigley, senior vice president of flight operations for United Airlines; Eric Allison, head of Elevate, Uber Technologies; and Lt. Gen. Jacqueline Van Ovost of the U.S. Air Force.

Sessions will focus on topics such as how to pitch an aviation program to school administration, integrating technology into your aviation classroom, how to become a drone pilot, and bringing AOPA’s free aviation STEM curriculum to schools.

Expanded exhibits include industry experts, collegiate aviation programs, and more. Plus, more time will be dedicated to exploring the exhibits.

There will be networking opportunities with fellow participants, including educators, administrators, university faculty, and industry leaders.

A behind-the-scenes tour of the U.S. Air Force Academy will showcase the cutting-edge technology in labs and research centers and the stunning midcentury modern architecture on campus. See the redesigned athletic and military training facilities, and experience history through military exhibits at Arnold Hall and monuments in the famed Honor Court. (Additional cost of $45.)
