FAA launches forty-second annual GA survey

The FAA has launched its forty-second annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey.

The confidential survey, which takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete, is the only source of information on the GA fleet such as the number of hours flown in the preceding year and the ways people use GA aircraft.

Data from the survey is used to determine safety metrics such as accident rates and understand the impact of the GA industry on jobs, economic output, and investments in aviation infrastructure. Survey information helps policymakers determine funding for aviation services, assess the impact of regulatory changes, and more.

To achieve those goals, the FAA and the aviation industry require accurate data about a broad range of aircraft. The operators of more than 80,000 aircraft are asked to respond to the survey, and AOPA encourages everyone who is contacted about the survey by email or postcard to participate. Past survey results may be viewed on the FAA website.

Several groups of aircraft such as turbine aircraft, rotorcraft, newer aircraft, and Alaska-based aircraft are surveyed every year to better understand the activity of high-use groups. Please respond to the survey even if you did not fly your aircraft during 2019, if you sold your aircraft, or if the aircraft was damaged.

For more information or to obtain an abbreviated survey form for owners and operators of three or more aircraft, contact Tetra Tech toll-free at 800-826-1797 or by email.
