Final Exam
Question

How does an aircraft owner/operator conduct and log the annual emergency locator transmitter inspection?
Answer
This inspection is not one of the 31 items of preventive maintenance listed in Appendix A to Part 43 of the federal aviation regulations, so an A&P must sign the logbook entry. You can pull the cover off the tail, remove the ELT, hand it to the mechanic for inspection, and then replace it when the mechanic is done, but the mechanic has to do the actual inspection and sign the log.
