Support GA on Giving Tuesday
News reports are quick to show hordes of people rushing to the stores for big sales right after Thanksgiving, but more people today are turning to other ways to use their money—in the spirit of helping others.
Since its start in 2012, Giving Tuesday has gained traction as a means to remind us that the holiday season is one of giving—to those people and ideas that are important to us—and has grown into a global movement that has inspired hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
An easy, effective way to support GA is through a gift to the AOPA Foundation. Contributions to the foundation fund programs that membership dues don’t cover, including the AOPA Air Safety Institute and the You Can Fly program. The common goal is to create opportunities of growth for every AOPA member and the entire GA community.
“Aviation has given so much to many of us and enriched our lives in ways we never could have imagined,” said Elizabeth Tennyson, senior vice president of the AOPA Foundation. “A gift to the foundation in this time of generosity ensures that we can get more people in the skies and safely keep them there. In short, your generosity can help us protect our freedom to fly.”
Among the most important initiatives conducted by the AOPA Foundation is the You Can Fly Challenge. Donations to the foundation in support of the You Can Fly program made by December 31 will be matched, dollar for dollar up to $2.5 million, by the Ray Foundation.
The late James C. Ray was a World War II veteran and a member of the AOPA President’s Council who “believed that life skills are learned through aviation.”
Donations through the 2021 You Can Fly Challenge will introduce more students to aviation opportunities, provide pilots more time in the air through flying clubs, enhance flight training success, and enable rusty pilots to safely return to the cockpit.
