Cavagnaro, Timmermans named to NAFI CFI Hall of Fame

Spin specialist and AOPA columnist Catherine Cavagnaro and independent flight instructor Ron Timmermans will be inducted into the Flight Instructor Hall of Fame administered by the National Association of Flight Instructors during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in Wisconsin.

Each year NAFI recognizes aviators who model the highest standards of professionalism and dedication in the flight training industry.

Photo by Chris Rose.Cavagnaro is the owner of Ace Aerobatic School in Sewanee, Tennessee. She is recognized as an expert on spins and aerobatics. Cavagnaro writes the “Flying Smart” column for AOPA Pilot. Cavagnaro is a designated pilot examiner and FAA Safety Team lead representative for the Nashville Flight Standards District Office. She owns a Beechcraft Bonanza.

A nationally known speaker, Cavagnaro will discuss performance charts from noon to 1 p.m. Central time July 26 at the NAFI booth at AirVenture. From 2 to 3:30 p.m. on July 26 she will discuss avoiding loss of control at the FAA Aviation Safety Center.

Timmermans has been an independent flight instructor since 1998. He owns and manages AileRon T in Orlando, Florida. He retired from a 40-year career as an architect and project manager before devoting himself to aviation full time. He owns a Beechcraft Bonanza.

He has been a frequent presenter at AOPA’s Rusty Pilots seminars, Safety Seminars, and Flight Instructor Refresher courses. He is a founding member of the Wings Industry Network, a program whose goal is to reduce the aviation accident by boosting participating in the FAA Safety Team Wings Pilot Proficiency Program. Timmermans will discuss the Wings Industry Network on July 26 from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. Central time at the NAFI booth, and again on July 27 from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m.at Forum Stage 11 at AirVenture.
