In 2021, these were the most popular light jet and turboprops financed by AOPA members:
It’s interesting that two of the top three sellers on this list are newcomers to the top spots. What’s not surprising is that the TBM 850 tops the list. The aircraft is a perennial value, especially the later 850s. With an affordable and simple upgrade to the NXi avionics suite, you’ve basically got a TBM 900. Also, the performance of the 850 is excellent. It’s fast. And, a versatile aircraft for pilot-owners conducting local or regional travel.
The CJ benefits from the exhaustion of other Cessna light jets in the used market—Mustangs (which made AOPA’s list in 2020), CJ1s, CJ2s, and CJ3s. Moreover, the values on the original CJs have remained affordable. Add that the airplane is relatively easy to operate single pilot and has great parts availability, and the CJ has good value for performance.
There are four reasons the Cirrus Vison Jet jumped up on the list. First, 2021 saw the first-time creation of a secondary market for the SF50. Second, Cirrus does an exceptional job creating a meaningful “owner experience.” Third, the parachute and its safety record cannot be underestimated. Finally, it’s a distinctive, well-designed, single-pilot jet.
