AOPA World Mastercard® Benefits Explained

AOPA World Mastercard benefits can open up the world to you if you know how to use them.

These days it can look like everyone has a credit card to offer you and most adults already have the number of credit cards that seems the most reasonable for them. But, if you’re a general aviation pilot, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better card to provide value for your money than the AOPA World Mastercard®. Purchases of flight lessons, items or services at FBOs, fuel purchases, avionics, etc... all of these add up mighty quickly. This means that Cash Back1 categories specifically tailored to these purchases give a pilot more to reinvest in their flying activities. Whether you’re a prospective cardholder, a brand-new cardholder, or a current client, read on to learn more about making the most of your AOPA World Mastercard®.

Most interesting to many cardholders are the benefits that straightforwardly impact their financial resources: the Cash Back1 spending categories, the low introductory APR, the zero-liability coverage, and the lack of an annual fee to maintain the use of the card. AOPA World Mastercard® now boasts five generous Cash Back1 categories so every user can earn back 4% of purchase value on select AOPA purchases, 3% of purchases with select AOPA partner businesses or of streaming services, 2% of purchases at flight schools or FBOs, of fuel (aviation and automotive), and 1% of the transaction value on everything else. A low introductory APR means that our cardholders save on interest and zero-liability coverage protects their hard-earned cash from fraud when it’s reported promptly.

What’s left after those benefits are the benefits less-commonly known about: the points system tied to user purchases, World Mastercard® Luxury Travel Benefits, identity theft protection, and a unique cardholder gift. Think of the points system as a way of tracking the cash-back totals earned - a $100 transaction at AOPA (which is in the 4% category) will net you 400 points, a $50 transaction at an FBO (which is in the 3% category) will net 150 points, a $50 gas station purchase (which is in the 2% category) will net 100 points, and so on, with purchases in the 1% category ,corresponding to one point per dollar. Bonus points cap at 2,500 per quarter, so keep track of your purchases to know you’re maximizing that return. The luxury travel benefits are listed at the World Mastercard® website but can be summed up as a unique set of savings set aside especially for cardholders. I’ve also written an article on our identity theft protection, found here. Our unique cardholder gift is a special surprise fulfilled by Commerce Bank, which would not be a surprise if I divulged it here. Just know to expect an extra goodie with the delivery of your new Mastercard® in partnership with AOPA.

  1. Rewards points can be redeemed for Cash Back or other redemption items provided through AOPA Pilot Rewards. A Cash Back redemption is applied as a statement credit. The statement credit will reduce your balance but you are still required to make at least your minimum payment. A minimum of 2,500 points is needed to redeem for Cash Back. Values for non-cash back redemption items such as merchandise, gift cards and travel may vary.
