In the field
Seaplane Adventures provides aerial tours of San Francisco in a de Havilland Beaver and Robinson R44. The base was founded in 1945 and is located in Richardson Bay, where Otis Redding wrote the lyrics to (Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay. The seaplane base has a long history, being one of the largest flight schools in the United States in the early 1950s and as a rehearsal space for artists like the Grateful Dead and Santana. How hot is it in Texas during the summer? Digital Media Photo Editor Rebecca Boone—having only been on a handful of GA flights—traveled across the state in Cirrus style and came prepared for the 100-plus-degree heat. She kept covered and hydrated, but standing outside Lajitas Airport (T89) near Terlingua, Texas, you can see no amount of coverage and water can fend off that Texas sun. Nightfall brought not only heat relief but starry skies as you’ll see in our Destinations story Boone photographed for an upcoming issue of AOPA Pilot. @sumwalk736
Video Content Producer Jamal Warner discovered an original 1948 Cessna 195, which the father and son team of Mike and Dillon Barron spent 28 years restoring at their field in Perry, Missouri. The aircraft won Grand Champion at EAA AirVenture two years ago. @dtulis
