Organizations such as Pilots N Paws coordinate thousands of flights across the United States to transport at-risk animals to the love and care they deserve with the help of volunteer pilots.
Often, the animals in need of transport come from high-kill shelters or have fallen victim to unfortunate circumstances, such as natural disasters or hoarding situations. These nonprofit organizations then arrange for a pilot to take the animal to an adopter, a foster home, or a shelter that can give the animal the resources it needs.
Signing up to volunteer is easy, especially if you are interested in joining the Pilots N Paws volunteer team. Simply visit the website, fill out a questionnaire, and an automatic authorization will be sent to your email address. Once you reply to the authorization, you will be registered to participate in the Pilots N Paws program.
From there, volunteer pilots can browse an online forum of requests for animals to be transported. There are no scheduled flights or fees, and volunteers can pick up flights at their own convenience.
Not a pilot but still want to help? Pilots N Paws also has nonflying volunteer roles, including ground transporters and foster caregivers.
