Annual GA activity survey underway

It's an invitation-only opportunity not to be missed: the annual survey of general aviation aircraft owners that the FAA conducts to calculate hours flown and allocate resources.

Contractor Tetra Tech, which has administered the annual exercise for 26 years, mailed and emailed invitations to selected individuals starting in February, asking them to spend a few minutes completing a confidential online questionnaire. Those who do not respond can expect a postage-paid paper version of the survey to follow. Invitees may also call Tetra Tech at 800-826-1797 or email the company to request an abbreviated survey available to operators of three or more aircraft.

Invitations are sent to more than 80,000 aircraft owners each year, representing about 30 percent of the total GA fleet, and representation of all aircraft types is important. The data is used to calculate accident rates and other safety metrics, understand the GA industry's economic contribution including jobs created, and allocate funding for infrastructure upgrades. It is also used to assess the effects and cost of regulation changes.

AOPA has long encouraged members to participate in the annual survey, now entering its forty-eighth year.
