I downloaded the AFTA iPad app but my login doesn't work

As a student, you will ever only need to login through advantage.aopa.org. AFTA works by pairing a student with a CFI, and the iPad app is only for administering lessons, either in flight or ground training. You can find all of your relevant student information via a web browser at advantage.aopa.org. To gain a further understanding of how the various parts of AFTA work see the interactive demo below

How much does AFTA actually cost

AFTA is offered as a complimentary benefit included in AOPA’s membership. There is no specific cost attributed to the service itself. For first-time members, we offer a 3 month free trial period to experience the full benefits of being an AOPA member. Additionally, membership is free for all individuals under the age of 18.

I signed up via the email link, but my instructor doesn't see me in their school

If your instructor does not see you/you are unable to login. It is possible that you have an AOPA account but haven’t obtained a membership yet. Please note that a membership is required for your login to function properly. To verify whether you are a member, please refer to our interactive (link here) that will assist you in checking your membership status. If you are certain that you have an active membership, but are still not appearing in your CFI’s view, we recommend following our detailed walkthrough of the sign up process (Click here to view the demo) for a step by step explanation of the process.

I am interested in using AFTA, what should I do

We appreciate your interest in AFTA! Please select the option that best describes your situation.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use AFTA independently as a student, as AFTA requires a student-CFI pairing to work. If you need assistance with finding a flight school near you, you can use our flight school finder. If you would like to specifically find a flight school near you that uses AFTA, please contact us and we will be happy to search for you.

I have the invitation email from my CFI, what do I do now?

  1.  Are you an AOPA member?

YES – continue to STEP 2

NO – sign-up for a membership (don’t forget to explore FREE membership options), then go to STEP 2

      I DON’T KNOW – follow steps in How to Verify Membership, then go to STEP 2

2. Login at www.AOPA.org, then go to STEP 3

3. Click on COMPLETE REGISTRATON link in AFTA invite email
