Air Force seeks to expand Arkansas MOA

A new Air Force proposal would expand and divide Arkansas’ Shirley Military Operations Area (MOA).

Under the plan, the existing MOA would be divided into three different MOAs, allowing the military to activate only those sections actually in use. The entire complex would expand slightly to the north and approximately 10 nautical miles to the west, which could affect at least one airway, V-71. The floor and ceiling of the new MOAs would remain unchanged at 10,000-feet msl and 17,999-feet msl respectively.

AOPA will carefully analyze the potential impacts of the plan. In the meantime, pilots who believe the changes would have a negative impact on their operations are urged to file comments before the March 18 deadline. Comments should be directed to Mark Ward, Federal Aviation Administration, Attn: AJV-E23.1, P.O. Box 20636, Atlanta, GA 30320.
