Thrill from Brazil

Editor at Large Tom Horne headed south to Brazil to fly Embraer’s new Phenom 100, braving the winter rains in São José dos Campos. Horne flew the number-one prototype for two solid IMC days, really getting a feel for the aircraft, even though the prototype was bare bones and the weather was awful. Later he was given a tour of the Phenom completion center in Gavião Peixoto. There he saw a newly completed airplane and its roomy, stylish interior. Come to Brazil with Horne and fly the Phenom 100 in this online video. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: Phenom flight)

Little giant

Associate Editor Jill W. Tallman loves to fly and really loves the small single-engine aircraft that are typical of general aviation, so she especially liked flying the light sport category Tecnam Eaglet. Many of our writers travel to far-flung places to test-fly an aircraft, but Tallman only had to make the one-hour trek to the Chesapeake Bay from AOPA headquarters in Frederick, Maryland. See the gorgeous photography by photographer Chris Rose of the Eaglet flying over one of nature’s most beautiful areas in this online video. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: Eaglet flight)

Over Africa

Journalist Miles O’Brien regretfully left his full-time career at CNN last fall but has discovered that freelance life has its benefits. O’Brien and his wife, Sandy, accepted an offer to film the work of the Kenya Wildlife Service in Africa. Miles observed the intense pilot training at a weeklong clinic taught by notable American instructors Patty Wagstaff and John and Martha King, while Sandy photographed the action. Excerpts from the film the O’Briens produced are in this online video. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: Over Africa)

Online feature Haines and Ford— GA Serves America

Editor in Chief Thomas B. Haines spent a day recently with Harrison Ford as the actor passionately described why he is supporting the AOPA General Aviation Serves America campaign. Ford, a longtime GA pilot, shows Haines the California coast from his Bell 407 helicopter in this online video. www.aopa.org/pilot (keyword: Ford interview)
