Planning to fly to South Florida to watch the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts battle for the championship in Super Bowl XLIV? If so, plan your flight to arrive before the temporary flight restriction goes into effect.
The FAA has issued a notam restricting flight within a 30-nautical-mile radius of the area. Centered on the Fort Lauderdale VOR (FLL) 218-degree radial at 7.6 miles, the TFR will extend from the surface up to 17,999 feet msl. The TFR will be in effect from 4 until 11:59 p.m. local on Feb. 7. An inner 10-nm-radius no-fly zone also will be in effect during that time. See AOPA’s plain-language version of the notam for a list of impacted airports.
Pilots should read the notam for information regarding flight between the 10-nm and 30-nm rings. The TFR mirrors those established for the president, and pilots who violate the TFR could be intercepted and detained by law enforcement officials.
