Montana’s more than 120 publicly owned airports provide mobility for business, recreational, and family travelers and help address the challenges of getting around in the vast state. Gov. Brian Schweitzer recognized the state’s aviation and aerospace industry during the month of November—Aviation History Month—in a letter.
The letter of recognition cites air services and facilities’ role in airport security, search and rescue, fire detection and suppression, medical emergency response, and Montana National Guard missions. Montana also is home to the Recreational Aviation Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving existing airstrips and creating new public-use recreational airstrips. RAF President John McKenna contacted Schweitzer about November’s designation as Aviation Month.
“Montana pilots are well aware of the benefits airports and aviation provides to our quality of life here in Big Sky Country, but Governor Schweitzer’s official dispatch should be a source of renewed pride for anyone involved in aviation,” the RAF said in a news release.
Schweitzer’s letter recognizes the state’s aviation and aerospace partners as “a vital part of the engine that drives Montana’s economy.”
“I congratulate Montana’s pilots, aircraft maintenance professionals, airport managers and personnel, safety and security specialists and aviation and aerospace businesses for your record of success,” Schweitzer wrote.
