The future of the fixed-base operation, buildings, equipment, and a lodge at the gateway airport in Northway, Alaska, remained unclear after a state auction failed to produce a bidder for the facilities.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities “is still evaluating what our next course of action will be,” an official told AOPA.
Challenges from earthquake damage to the condition of the airport’s fuel-delivery system led to the failure of the FBO and the scheduling of the auction last month, as AOPA reported July 6. The online auction concluded July 15, with no one stepping up to offer the minimum $10,000 bid.
“While Northway serves a very small local community, it is an important gateway airport for aircraft headed to and from Alaska through Canada,” said AOPA Alaska Regional Representative Tom George. “At a minimum, having fuel and Customs service there is important to the general aviation community.”
