AOPA has expressed appreciation to the FAA for modifying the Class C airspace centered on Palm Beach International Airport in Florida in a way that improves general aviation access and enhances safety in the area.
The modification, which AOPA reported last month, would raise the floor of Class C airspace from 1,200 feet msl to 1,600 feet msl over Palm Beach County Park Airport and to the south. The change would provide more maneuvering area for rotorcraft and fixed-wing traffic arriving at Palm Beach County.
Members are urged to review and comment on the FAA’s notice of proposed rulemaking by Aug. 22. The proposal was published June 21 in the Federal Register.
“AOPA appreciates the FAA’s efforts to modify the Palm Beach Class C area to include only that airspace required for containment of arrivals and departures from Palm Beach International Airport,” wrote Tom Kramer, AOPA manager of air traffic services in formal comments submitted July 20. “The proposed increase to the floor of Class C airspace in the vicinity of Palm Beach County Park airport (LNA) will enhance safety by providing additional clearance between rotorcraft and fixed-wing aircraft entering the pattern at LNA.”
The proposal reflected the FAA’s efforts to “proactively manage the nation’s airspace,” he said.
