A two-phase runway construction project expected to conclude in September 2014 has begun at Florida’s Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
The extensive projects will affect flight operations, making it critical for pilots to schedule and plan flights with care, to be prepared for airborne holding, and to remain clear of Fort Lauderdale’s Class C airspace and Miami’s Class B airspace as directed.
The 5,276-foot-long Runway 9R/27L will be closed while it undergoes a complete reconstruction, to include significant lengthening.
Taxiway-infrastructure changes are also planned for the center and south portions of the airport.
Pilots are urged to check notices to airmen before flights to or from the airport, and to review taxi routes before movement on the surface. To minimize delays, it is recommended that pilots adjust flight schedules to avoid times of high demand.
