AOPA urges pilots who plan to fly in the area of central Wisconsin during the period from Aug. 20 to 31 to stay informed about the status of a temporary military operations area (TMOA) in which an annual training exercise will be staged.
Exercise Northern Lightning will be in effect Aug. 20 to 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Daylight Time and at other times by notices to airman. The exercises will be staged from the Volk Field Air National Guard Base.
The TMOA includes altitudes from 8,000 feet msl to 17,999 feet msl. Several Victor airways run through the airspace, as AOPA described when reporting to members in February that public comments had been solicited on the plan.
AOPA reviewed the proposal, and did not find significant impact to members. However, the association continues to urge general aviation pilots to stay informed about the TMOA, and any scheduling changes that go into effect during the active period, which is a busy time for general aviation flight operations.
