Comment deadline extended on airspace plan

The Navy, responding to AOPA’s request to give pilots more time to review its plans to seek new special-use airspace (SUA) for training operations at the Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility in Boardman, Ore., has agreed to a 32-day extension of the deadline for public comments. Public comments on the proposal will now be accepted until Feb. 27.

AOPA will use the additional time to review the proposed action and determine the impact on general aviation, as well as report to members on changes to the Navy’s plan.

A proposed military operations area (MOA) would be established from 500 feet agl to 3,999 feet msl north of the existing restricted area R-5701B. A second MOA is proposed from 4,000 feet msl to 17,999 feet msl north of R-5701C.

Members are encouraged to study the project documents online and submit comments there on the environmental impact study, taking advantage of the early stage of the review process to provide input. Please also share your comments with AOPA.
