Icon Aircraft, the California firm developing a flashy new light sport aircraft touted as “spin resistant,” announced June 13 that the engineers behind Lotus automobiles have been called in to help craft the interior.
Icon has collected more than 600 deposits, and hopes to begin production this year.
Icon Vice President of Design Klaus Tritschler said in a press release that Lotus Engineering is a “perfect” partner for the project.
“Lotus has proven invaluable because of their experience designing and manufacturing high quality yet lightweight interiors in the same volumes at which we’ll be producing the A5,” Tritschler said. “Additionally, they provide key production knowledge and insights from the automotive industry, which we consider the benchmark in terms of quality and design.”
The team is getting the A5 ready for the assembly line, and the first prototype parts are expected soon, the company said.
