The FAA is asking for public comment on an annual request from the Air Force to establish a temporary military operations area (TMOA) in western Iowa. AOPA encourages members to review and comment on the proposal, which could affect many IFR operations, by May 28.
The Air Force seeks to establish the Hawki TMOA beneath the existing Crypt MOA complex as depicted in supporting documentation. Active altitudes have been designated from 4,500 feet mean sea level up to but not including 8,000 feet msl.
The TMOA’s proposed active times are set as described from Sept. 4 to 11 between 0900 and 2030 CDT; Sept.16 to 21 between 0730 and 0100 CDT; and at other times by notice to airmen.
Five victor airways would be affected by the TMOA, including two that would be entirely unusable during TMOA activation.
AOPA has reviewed the proposal, continues to gather feedback from local airspace users, and will submit formal comments on the TMOA plan.
Members are encouraged to share their comments with the FAA on any impact the proposal would have on their flight operations. Please be sure to include the impacts on both VFR and IFR operations during a seasonally busy period for general aviation traffic.
