Airguide Publications has updated the Flight Guide iEFB to display weather on the iPad in flight, with additional functionality planned for future releases.
The application can be installed for free, with subscription plans ranging from $9.99 to $19.99 per month, following a 30-day trial. The updated version 5.0.4 for iPad now incorporates Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) weather when used in conjunction with the Sky Radar single- and dual-band receivers by Radenna. The company said that future updates will expand the list of compatible ADS-B receivers.
Coupled with a GPS receiver (also sold separately), the application can display a moving map in flight, and overlay a range of data received through the ADS-B receiver including radar and TFRs. Available hardware allows the iPad to accept a GPS signal from many popular panel-mounted devices, including Garmin 430/530 and 650/750 series navigation systems. The application is also compatible with the Zaon PCAS XRX traffic receiver.
