PilotWorkshops acquires ZD Publishing's GPS manuals

PilotWorkshops announced Feb. 7 that it has acquired the assets, copyrights, and inventory of ZD Publishing, known within the aviation industry for its line of user-friendly training manuals that focus on Garmin and Bendix/King handheld and panel-mount GPS units.

All ZD Publishing titles can be purchased on the PilotWorkshops website, and can be downloaded or ordered in print format. ZD Publishing President John Dittmer will continue to write manuals and updates for PilotWorkshops. Dittmer said PilotWorkshops had become ZD’s largest distributor prior to the acquisition.

Dittmer, a CFI with more than 40 years’ experience, uses a task-oriented approach to explaining how to get more out of the GPS, PilotWorkshops said. “They focus on getting something done as opposed to the ‘buttonology’ focus in many manufacturer manuals,” said Mark Robidoux, president of PilotWorkshops.

Founded in 2005, PilotWorkshops creates and sells a range of proficiency programs, and emails a free “Pilot’s Tip of the Week” to more than 100,000 subscribers.
