Garmin recently announced the availability of its new all-digital radar altimeter, called the GRA5500. The new device is meant for transport category, helicopters, business, and commercial aviation, a Garmin news release said.
Garmin says that as an all-electric device, the GRA5500 can process hundreds of altitudes a second, and then filter them against false returns for a more accurate indication of actual altitude.
The GRA550 follows the ARINC 429 standard, which means it can interact with a number of Garmin displays, such as the G1000, G500/600, the company’s TCAS II, Cat II ILS requirements, and more.
Currently standard equipment on the Cessna Citation X, Sovereign, Latitude, Longitude, and Bell 525, the GRA5500 sells for $13,995 without antennas.
