The FAA has proposed establishing two area navigation routes (T-routes) in the Washington, D.C., area under the agency’s Optimization of Airspace and Procedures in the Metroplex (OAPM) program. Members are encouraged to review the notice of proposed rulemaking and submit comments by April 1.
The OAPM is a three-year effort under the NextGen modernization program to improve flight operation efficiency in metroplex areas across the country. Washington, D.C., was chosen as one of the first areas to participate in the OAPM process.
The proposal for establishing the Washington, D.C., T-routes includes input from the pilot community, and marks a first step toward implementing key benefits for general aviation operations in the D.C. metroplex airspace, AOPA said.
“The FAA listened to general aviation’s needs and suggestions, and is implementing some of those ideas with this proposal,” said Tom Kramer, AOPA manager of airspace and modernization. “AOPA participated in the OAPM process, and hopes the FAA will continue to implement solutions that benefit the general aviation community.”
