Port-A-Cool wants you to chill out

Company releases Hurricane cooler

Hangars are a great place to gather and relax after a day of flying or time spent working on an airplane. They can also be stifling hot boxes of torture when the temperature rises. Port-A-Cool thinks it can offer some relief with a Hurricane.

The Hurricane is the company’s newest evaporative cooling unit. This portable unit uses the cooling power of evaporation to drop the temperature by as much as 30 degrees. It does it by using a fan to draw 14,500 cubic feet of air per minute over a proprietary media material that is soaked in tap water. As the air flows over the media, the water evaporates and cooler air comes out the other side. According to Port-A-Cool, the Hurricane can cool a hangar up to 3,500 square feet.

All that’s needed to operate it is some basic water from a hose and a standard plug. It draws only 11.4 amps when it’s running. Although the unit weighs 270 pounds, it is mounted on six castering wheels.

The Hurricane retails for $3,495 and comes with a one-year warranty.
