A visit to Dayton, Ohio, is a must-do for aspiring pilots and aviation enthusiasts. One way to experience the “birthplace of aviation” is to “race” to the nine historic sites in the Wright-Dunbar Business District, which Wilbur and Orville Wright called home.
Tour a minimum of six of the nine sites using your passport obtained at the Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center in Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historic Park. Visit five other historic sites and receive a “Wilbear Wright” teddy bear (left) as a keepsake.
The Wright-Dunbar Business District was the Dayton neighborhood of the Wright brothers and their friend, poet laureate Paul Laurence Dunbar. The historic neighborhood features the interpretive center, the Wrights’ cycle company, and the Dunbar home.
Once your passport is stamped, there are many other remarkable aviation sites to visit in Dayton. There’s the National Museum of the United States Air Force, Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center, the National Aviation Hall of Field, Hawthorn Hill, and the historic Woodlawn cemetery and arboretum, as well as a replica of the Wright B Flyer.
