Steve Dickson set to appear before Senate committee

In a May 10 letter to Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation Chairman Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), AOPA President Mark Baker expressed his support for Dickson’s nomination.

“Working alongside Steve on the FAA’s NextGen Advisory Committee, I have seen firsthand how he effectively engages with a diverse group of stakeholders on issues as complex as Air Traffic Control modernization. More importantly, his commitment to safety is second to none.”

In Dickson’s responses to a questionnaire from the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, he listed multiple op-eds in which he spoke out against ATC privatization, an issue AOPA fought hard against and ultimately defeated last year.

When asked what the top three challenges facing the agency were, Dickson answered safety, NextGen implementation, and innovation. Should he be confirmed by the Senate, Dickson would serve a five-year term.
