Final Exam
Question

I have been out of flying for about 15 years. My instructor noted that my paper pilot certificate was no longer valid. When did that change?
Answer
Paper certificates became invalid after March 31, 2010 (see FAR 61.19(g)). With exceptions for student certificates and temporary certificates, all pilots must hold the plastic card airman certificate. You can request a replacement for your paper certificate online for a $2 fee.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
