Final Exam
Question

I just gave half ownership of my airplane to my brother. It was a gift and involved no monetary transaction. How do I add him to the registration?
Answer
You cannot just add to a current registration. Even though it was a gift, you must complete a bill of sale, listing yourself as the seller and you and your brother as the purchasers. Complete a registration application listing the two of you as co-owners. Send both documents along with the $5 fee to the FAA Aircraft Registry. A copy of the registration application serves as a temporary registration and is good for 90 days.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center.
