Final Exam
Question

Is a 148-nautical-mile solo cross-country long enough to satisfy the requirement in FAR 61.109(a)(5)(ii) for a solo cross-country flight for a private pilot certificate?
Answer
No. FAR 61.109(a)(5)(ii) states the total distance must be 150 nm. Although 148 nm is close, it does not cover the required distance. To meet the requirement, you can add another leg and/or airport to the trip, or select an airport farther away.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
