GIFT Academy on the road

Women’s flight training camp to head to Wisconsin

Girls in Flight Training (GIFT) Academy, an innovative camp for women that helps them overcome obstacles in training, will hold an event in Wisconsin in June. Wisconsin GIFT Week 2021 will be June 13 through 19 in Sheboygan Falls.

The nonprofit GIFT also plans to resume its annual academy in Vernon, Texas, scheduled for October 10 through 16.

CFI Mary Latimer created GIFT in 2010 to address a need to provide women low-cost flight instruction in a supportive setting to help them advance. Yearly events held in Vernon have produced solos, checkrides, successful knowledge tests, and more. Pilots at all levels are invited.

GIFT events halted in 2020 because of COVID-19. This year, the organization is taking its successful formula on the road, as well as returning to Vernon. Volunteers donate time and/or aircraft to the effort. The immersive event allows participants to network and create friendships within the aviation community.

Wisconsin GIFT Week will take place at Sheboygan County Memorial Airport in Sheboygan. Registration is $250, which covers ground and flight training and lunch and snacks each day. Hourly aircraft rates are estimated to be $100 wet. Space is limited. Contact Bridgette Nottestadt for more information, or to register.

The Vernon GIFT event is $175 to register, which includes ground and flight training and lunch daily. Hourly aircraft rates are $105 wet. For more information or to register, see the website.
