Proposed AD requires turbocharger exhaust weld checks
Accidents led to a proposed airworthiness directive for airplanes and helicopters with turbocharged, reciprocating engines and spot-welded, multi-segment v-band couplings installed between the tailpipe and turbocharger exhaust. The AD would require repetitive inspections and establish a 500-hour life limit for the v-band coupling. Comments are due November 4.

Question of the Week
Question

I am looking for guidance on flying my Mooney M20J from Maryland to the West Coast and back, going out via the southern route and returning via the northern route. Does anyone have any advice?
Answer
One pilot suggested one of four routes for pilots flying nonpressurized, nonturbocharged aircraft. These routes largely follow major interstate highways, but keep in mind that the terrain is rugged.
