Question of the Week
Question

A pilot is about to get some recurrent training on night landings and operations from a local CFI. Is either the pilot or the instructor required to be night current to carry passengers?
Answer
Neither the pilot receiving dual instruction nor the instructor is required to be current under FAR 61.57(b). Because the flight is being conducted for the purpose of flight training, neither is considered a passenger, even if the pilot receiving the training is not yet rated in the aircraft (see this FAA legal interpretation).
