As part of a fundraiser for the First Flight Society—a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Wright brothers and promoting aviation education—one lucky winner will get to go for a flight in a World War II North American P–51 Mustang.
The 2022 First Flight Society sweepstakes aircraft is the P–51 Red Nose, which is operated by the Commemorative Air Force Airbase Georgia. Known as the aircraft that started the CAF, the history of Red Nose dates back to the end of World War II.
The sweepstakes drawing will happen on December 17 at 11 a.m. Eastern, during the organization's annual Wright Brothers Day at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The event celebrates the anniversary of powered flight and also coincides with the seventy-fifth anniversary of the U.S. Air Force. This year the First Flight Society event will honor Gen. Benjamin O. Davis Jr., a commander of the Tuskegee Airmen.
The flight recipient will have 12 months to schedule the ride in the historic aircraft, and will also be gifted $700 in travel expenses. For more information on sweepstakes restrictions and prize details, visit the First Flight Society website.
