Question

I used to rent a light sport aircraft through a Part 141 flight school and no longer need to do so. The school has informed me that the FAA has mandated cancellation fees because it is an FAA-certified school. The amount seems excessive, and I have not encountered this issue when renting from other companies. I have not found information about such fees on the FAA website. How should I proceed?

Answer

One pilot suggested asking the school to identify the FAA regulation mandating those fees, checking with the local flight standards district office to verify the fees, and consulting an attorney.
