He earned his private pilot certificate in helicopters before adding his commercial certificate, as well as instrument and multiengine ratings, in fixed-wing aircraft while attending Cornell University.

Lynch has extensive experience in aerobatic and warbird flying, and previously owned and performed in a 1945 Grumman Avenger. He is type rated in the F4U Corsair, P–51 Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire Mk I, and A6M Zero, and has also flown the B–24 Liberator, B–25 Mitchell, and B–17 Flying Fortress. More recently he earned his seaplane rating, flying J–3 Cubs, a Cessna 170, and an Aviat Husky on floats.

He spent three decades with NetJets Inc., beginning in 1995 when the company was still Executive Jet Aviation. He played a key role in international development, leading the creation and launch of NetJets Europe and NetJets Middle East, and worked early on with flight operations to advance training programs including the company’s first crew resource management initiative. The majority of his career, however, was in marketing and sales, where he concluded his tenure as senior vice president.

A graduate of Cornell University with both a B.S. and MBA, he and his wife Elizabeth raised their three children in Greenwich, Connecticut, and now live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
