Page Weinstein has never been one to back down from a challenge. After dominating the stage as 2024 Miss Pennsylvania, the Delta Air Lines flight attendant has set her sights on her next journey: becoming an airline pilot. So far, she has accumulated a total of 20 hours of flight time operating out of Allegheny County Airport (AGC), located just seven miles southeast of her hometown, Pittsburgh.
How did you get started in aviation?
I followed in my mom’s footsteps and became a flight attendant. I’m going on my third year with Delta now and being around so many pilots, I’ve heard so many of their stories, and they’ve been great mentors. Interacting with them so much, I just knew I wanted to further my career.
What have been your biggest challenges?
I’m in Pennsylvania where you can have all four seasons in one day, which can cause some scheduling difficulties. One time I tried six times in a row to get just one flight hour, and every time it was cancelled because of the weather.
Favorite aircraft?
I have different answers depending on whether I’m working first class or in the main cabin. My favorite aircraft if I’m working first class is the Boeing 757. If I’m working in the main cabin, I like the Airbus A321, and we’ll see when I become a pilot. I’m learning on a Cessna right now. I recently took my mom up, and she had never been on an airplane that small. She was so funny because in smaller airplanes, you can feel every little bit of turbulence compared to airliners. So, she was in the back seat screaming and freaking out as we flew over Pittsburgh.
Favorite aviation-related activity?
I always enjoy flying places where I can see my family. I fly all over the world, but my favorite thing is being able to go to my aunt’s house for dinner on a Tuesday night because I’m laying over in that city.
Advice for students?
Never give up. It’s definitely not an easy journey, right? It’s expensive. It’s time consuming. But it’s so worth it in the end, especially as someone who’s already worked in the industry as a flight attendant. I’ve seen how incredible and important aviation is, and I think a lot of times people think that anyone that’s ever on a flight is going to Disney World, but that’s not true. People that are on flights might have just lost a loved one and now they’re going to the funeral. They might have just lost their job and now they’re flying back home. It’s important to have compassion and realize we’re all human. There’s a reason that we’re traveling. It’s to be with our loved ones or see different parts of the world. As a student pilot, we’re going to be able to do that for people, and I think that’s a really big responsibility. So, in the hard times when you’re stressed out, the weather isn’t cooperating, and the cost is adding up, I think it’s so important to remember that we’re going to make a big impact on people. Take pride in it.
