Chicago club meets in Florida

Sunda Morning Breakfast Club

Members of the Sunday Morning Breakfast Club (see “Will fly for food,” January AOPA Pilot) are visiting Sun ’n Fun this week—and they’ll be gathering at the AOPA tent at 1 p.m. each day.

The informal organization, based near Chicago at Lewis University Airport in Romeoville, Ill.—and drawing pilots from the neighboring states of Indiana and Wisconsin—has a simple credo: to fly out for breakfast every Sunday. When a VFR destination can’t be found, members will drive to an airport with a restaurant.

With roots going back decades, the members of this friendly group genuinely like hanging out and eating together. What sets them apart is the fact that they’ve managed to keep it going at a time when many other groups struggle to retain members—or even fly regularly.

Traditionally, the group has met daily during Sun ’n Fun at the FAA building. “AOPA did that great magazine story on us, so from now on, we’re meeting at the AOPA tent every day,” a member said. If you’d like to meet members of the Sunday Morning Breakfast Club, stop by the southeast corner of the AOPA tent at 1 p.m. during Sun ’n Fun.
