The FAA has requested that AOPA urge pilots who are planning to attend the 2012 Rocky Mountain Airshow to review arrival and departure procedures before a delayed notice to airmen becomes available just one day ahead of the event, scheduled Aug. 24 to 26 at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, Colo.
The notice to airmen describing the procedures will become available just before the event because it was not submitted by the July 4 deadline for publication of National Flight Data Center notams, the FAA said in requesting that AOPA notify pilots about changes to flight operations.
Once the notam becomes available, pilots should continue to check frequently for updated notams covering event procedures.
The FAA has shared this notice that describes VFR arrival procedures, and departure preparation and procedures that will be used. The notice provides the times procedures will be in effect, and times when the airport will be closed during the airshow. The notice includes navigational chart excerpts depicting routes to be flown, and air traffic control frequencies in use in the sectors.
A safety note contained in the notice reminds pilots that Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport is in close proximity to Class B airspace associated with Denver International Airport. It cautions pilots that the published procedures “do not authorize operations in the Class B airspace without specific ATC clearance.”
