Still in demand
The Beechcraft King Air wasn't supposed to do so much, or last so long. But after 55 years of continuous production, the versatile twin turboprops are still in demand. At any given time, King Airs are flying missions as varied as surveillance, medical transport, and luxury corporate travel. AOPA Senior Photographer Mike Fizer captured this photo of a King Air in flight. Follow @flywithAOPA on Instagram to see more photos from AOPA staff and members.
Final Exam
Question

I'm in my early 50s and looking to return to flying after stopping my lessons for career and family. That career in IT has left me pretty burned out, so I'm thinking of a switch to aviation. How much money could I expect to earn as a part-time CFI?
Answer
How much you earn as an instructor would depend on how much time you're willing to devote to this part-time job. Working on the weekends may not be enough to meet your earning goal. Weather and student availability will dictate your paycheck most of the time. It may open the door to other commercial work, however. It can't hurt to do some fact finding at your local airport to see what opportunities are available in your area. Join the discussion >

This discussion is from our online Pilot Information Center, where you can ask questions, contribute answers, earn badges, and join our growing pilot community online. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training?
