Question

I'm about to get some recurrent training on night operations from a local CFI. Neither of us is night current to carry passengers. Is that a requirement to complete this flight?
Answer
Neither you nor the instructor must be current under FAR 61.57(b) to complete this flight because neither of you would be considered a passenger, even if you as the student are not yet rated in the aircraft (see this FAA letter of interpretation). Join the discussion >

This discussion is from our online Pilot Information Center, where you can ask questions, contribute answers, earn badges, and join our growing pilot community online. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training?
