Final Exam
Question

I'm planning a trip to Buffalo, New York, and would like to fly over Niagara Falls. If I take off and land in the United States and overfly but don't land in Canada, are there any special requirements or permission required by either country? What are the applicable U.S. and Canadian regulations?
Answer
The U.S. regulations that address operations in foreign countries begin with FAR 91.701. To overfly Canada, you must file a flight plan, communicate with any U.S. air traffic control facility prior to border crossing, and obtain a discrete squawk code. Like FAR Part 91, Part VI of the Canadian aviation regulations is titled, "General Operating and Flight Rules." Read the full answer and join the discussion >
