Question of the Week
Question

I am just about ready to buy an airplane that has a 406 MHz emergency locator transmitter installed. I know these work better overall, but is there any additional paperwork I need to know about?
Answer
Unlike 121.5 MHz ELTs, all 406 MHz ELTs are registered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. If you don't already have an ELT registered with NOAA, it is easy to create an online account, and it will be easy to renew your ELT registration every two years as required. Having your aircraft information up to date will help search and rescue crews find you more quickly if you ever need their help. Join the discussion >
