Question

I received my private pilot certificate in 1993, had about 50 hours, and didn't fly until a few weeks ago. I can't find my original logbook. Is there a way to document those hours?
Answer
You can contact the FAA Airman Registry and obtain a copy of your completed application for your private pilot checkride application (FAA Form 8710-1; see this FAA webpage). That will document most of your time. Unless you have records such as receipts for your rentals or the like, the rest is probably gone. If you haven't flown in 30 years, any hours you are able to document will not make you current. AOPA's Rusty Pilots initiative is a great way to refresh your aeronautical knowledge.
